Looking for the Best Blender Beginner Tutorials?

Having difficulty finding decent Blender Tutorials for free like I was?

Being a student and broke is tough. Being a student, broke and an inspiring 3D designer is even tougher (trust me I know, I've been there too).

If you fit into the latter, you probably downloaded Blender,  gave it a go and realized that it's not exactly the same interface as many tutorials you have came across… wait, what? That's where this article comes in handy!

Blender 2.8 came with many new features including a massive new UI update, which makes following any tutorial before (Blender 2.79 and below) very difficult to follow, especially for someone who is completely new to the software.

While this may seem like bad news, there has never been a better time to get into Blender. It is open source and constantly growing and improving. Blender also has a large online community (The largest out of any 3D software most likely) who are constantly putting out new videos and art daily. r/blender, Blendernation, Blenderartists to name a few.

Tracking down the perfect tutorials for your needs isn't an easy task, so I've researched and compiled the top best free Blender tutorials for absolute beginners. These tutorials are picked because they are clear, concise and idiot proof for people like myself. They are all great jumping off points for people looking to break into the wonderful world of Blender, without having to spend a dime.

1.Polygonrunway's Become a 3D Illustrator Course

If you watch a lot of Youtube 3D videos, you've probably come across PolygonRunway's work. By sharing his knowledge and expertise for free on youtube, he has amassed a HUGE following on social media. I personally have learnt a ton from his videos.

When I heard he was making a course where he is going to share all of his expertise, thoughts and knowledge, I lost it. I instantly enrolled in his course and had 2 great looking scenes up and running within one day. I cannot stress enough how great this course is.

Within the first hour of this course, you'll already have your first scene rendered. How amazing is that? He wastes no time getting you up and running.

This tutorial is at the top for a reason. Its clear that PolygonRunway has put a lot of love, thought and time into this course to make it the best it can be.

Curious? Luckily for you, the first lesson is totally FREE. Enroll and see for yourself.

2. Chocofur's Blender Tutorial Beginner Series

Chocofur has a fantastic Beginner Blender 2.8 series on their channel, where they cover the absolute basics and smoothly transition into more challenging and complex topics in later videos. He keeps his explanations very slow paced and easy to understand for the viewer, making it very beginner friendly as he explains the ins and outs of the revamped user interface.

You'll start off with object selection, learning how to rotate and scale, learning the viewport and lots of other core concepts. I always recommend this playlist as Chocofur does a great job ramping up the difficulty and making sure that by the time you're done the videos, you're ready to take on more challenging projects.

Chocofur updates this playlist at least weekly, so be on the lookout for more videos being constantly added to this fantastic playlist.

3. Yansculpts 3D Modelling Tutorial for Complete Beginners - Blender 2.8

I highly recommend giving his channel a look. Yan has hundreds of videos aimed at teaching you how to be a better artist, and his Modelling in Blender for Complete Beginners is no different. In this 2 part video series, Yan goes over the basics of Blender by taking you through step by step to model a basic sword. If you're looking into breaking into the world of modelling game assets and props, this is the video for you. Yansculpts will also take you through the process of basic texturing, an extremely important concept for beginners to learn. I cannot recommend this series enough.

5. BlenderGuru's 2.8 Beta Overview - Blender Tutorial

People who have used Blender before would be offended if BlenderGuru wasn't included on this list.

BlenderGuru is the patron saint of Blender tutorial videos. I learnt all of the basics from BlenderGuru's Beginner and Intermediate tutorials for Blender 2.79, where they take you through Modelling a doughnut and a Coffee Cup. His channel is a cornerstone of the Blender community. Enough said.

BlenderGuru's new videos are a walkthrough of everything that is new in Blender 2.8, it's a super useful video. I'd recommend watching the aforementioned walkthrough video and then supplementing it with his old tutorials, which you can check out on youtube HERE . They may be on the last version, but after you have a basic understanding of 2.8, you can navigate his old beginner tutorial easily, as most Blender enthusiasts would tell you it's a MUST watch.

6. CG Geek's Intro to Eevee Tutorial -Blender

This is my personal favorite tutorial on this list.

Eevee is Blender's new real-time rendering engine. You can find out more about it HERE.

CG Geek takes you step by step through Blender's new Real time rendering engine, where you'll cover bloom, subsurface scattering, lighting, compositing, materials, depth of field and several more new features of Eevee. The end result is a beautiful looking scene. The world of post processing and rendering in Blender is a complex subject, but CG Geek's tutorial is a perfect jumping off point.
